Our first cat together, Pepper, passed away unexpectedly 4 years ago.... we and our human and furbaby family were all devastated :( It took a while, and Mum's white cat, Sheba, took it on herself to comfort me. And Jelly, the dog she thinks is her twin sister :)
At some point, I felt Pep was nudging me, telling me to stop grieving and go to the pound, there was a cat there who needed us as much as we needed him. My husband, Jason, had felt it as well. Well, none of the mini-panthers were able to come home with us. I did one last walk down the short row of cages. Then I saw a pool of black huddled up in his litter box. He showed me he was a tuxie, when I put a finger through the cage to pet him, as he purred his head off :)
Long story short, we took him home a week later. First thing he did was plop at the foot of our be,d on my side, and look up at Jason.. so Jason got to belly rub his furry belly! Pep would only let me do that without murder paws! He and Sheba spatted, we found that Feliway helped, thank goodness, because it was a couple of weeks till we could get him neutered. One time, Jason saw Sultan walking down the hall and said "I know that floofy butt!", he'd been visiting us for food for several months!
The furkids all get along well, with spats now and then, but all in all, it's a happy home :)
In fall 2012, my then-new boyfriend lived in an apartment in an old building next to a house, which had a little side yard. The neighbor mentioned to him that there were two tiny kittens there, but that he had never seen a mama cat or any other kittens. My boyfriend would go feed the cats, and sometimes I would go with him. There was a male brown/grey tabby, and a little female tuxedo kitty.
This was Arizona, so it wouldn’t get terribly cold, but too cold for two tiny kittens outside all by themselves. The neighbor was going to take the tabby, and my boyfriend the black cat, because he thought it would be cool to have a black cat. However, the neighbor eventually decided not to, so my boyfriend took both cats.
We drove those cats from AZ to NH the following summer, and since then they have been back to AZ with us, to Colorado, and back to AZ again. The tabby is the favorite and is practically my boyfriend’s soul mate; I can’t believe how close he came to not having him. So glad his neighbor changed his mind! And the little black cat is definitely a character, and so bossy!
In the fall of 2022, I knew the my time was limited with my 12 year old dog, Percy. I had been thinking about adopting a cat, as Percy loves cats. I searched and searched and nothing was working out. I prayed and meditated. I decided that I was going to stop searching and open my heart and let it be up to the Universe. Four days later, I was riding home from work with a friend who shared another coworker had found three kittens that needed homes. This was it. Three days later, Cosmos, joined our family. Percy and Cosmos had six months together and Cosmos was beside him, softly and gently for his last few days. It was just perfect. Six months after that, in a similar way Cosmos' little brother, Webb (named after the telescope) joined our family. Cosmos immediately cared for Webb, fully accepting him. They are my space buddies, my reminder of Source and how we are all connected.
Your adoption of BJ was the reason I now have Kitty. I had lost my beloved Leia in July of that year. She was 18 and has been a neighbor’s cat who just wanted to live with me and not the neighbor-so the neighbor gave her to me. Black Kitty reminds me very much of Leia as she was “street savvy’ outdoors too and had her little adventures . She was a great car traveler and even went to Key West, Fl. with us one time.
Anyways, I had been looking at photos of cats up for adoption and saw a senior cat posted by the local rescue Kitten Angels. She looked just like my first cat Prince who we had for almost 20 years. Our cats live so long (blessedly) that we knew we didn;t want a kittten as we are older and truthfully, didn't want the cat to outlive us. It just seemed too soon to get another cat after Leia.
That August , I was at a photography workshop at Longwood Gardens near Philadelphia. I saw BJ’s story on the news and searched to see if there was a FB page to follow him There was-yours! For some reason BJ’s adoption just made me know that I wanted to adopt the cat I had seen right then and there.
I showed her picture to George, my husband, and he immediately said -“Let’s get her”.I put in an application and the foster brought Kitty (then called Puff) to the Petsmart here in Clifton Park that weekend. After they told me her story , I knew she had been waiting for us.
She was 11 years and abandoned in a house Gansevoort, NY along with 3 sisters. Unusually, a dog rescue group, The MIss MOO project, stepped in to save the 4 cats. The younger cats went to other cat rescue groups and Kitty(Puff) was placed with Kitten Angels. She was in a Petsmart for about a month and got adopted but was resturned after another month as the resident cat hated her. She was back in the store and very sad they said- so she was placed in a foster home . The foster had been posting alot of picutes of her on FB and that is where I saw her . And the rest is history -she bonded with me after a few months . Unfortunately, it took a bit for her to like my husband as I fear she was not treated well by men but a bag of treats has helped in that department . She’ll be 16 this June and is still going strong.
Our now 14 year old sassy Tuxedo girl was born in my sister's garage. My sister saw a very pregnant mama cat in her yard. She contacted a local cat rescue and was able to trap her. They put Mama in the dog crate (they have German shepherds) in the garage with a box, towels, food, & water.
Mama had 6 girls, 2 tuxies & 4 different patterns of black & white.
We already had 2 boys, a tabby & a house panther. We went to see the kittens and my daughter fell in love with one of the tuxies! We brought her home at 8 weeks and she soon showed the boys who the boss was!
Now she is our one and only, which she loves. She still is the spoiled baby of the house.
I finally found the Jimmy story. Definitely a God send for healing to that family. We had to put a beloved cat asleep on Friday. So very difficult. It's a big family loss her. It couldn't be determined what the cause was. Possibly Bob cat fever. I have an 18-year-old calico that I know is in a lot of arthritic pain. ,
Love Jimmy's story. Oh, it's so true the universe has a plan for everyone. I have done lots of fostering in my life. Everyone would ask why certains one stayed as fosters and others didn't. Some I just new whether it was temporary or not, while others I was on the fence about. Ultimate everyone found their perfect home, whether it was mine or someone else. My most memorable one, I had raised a puppy from birth, her mom was hit by a car and unable to be saved. She was pregnant and we delivered her babies. I raised my pup Susie. She ended up living with my cousin. A few months later an rottie, Bug, in very bad shape needed a home and tons of TLC. Had I kept Susie, I wouldn't have had space and time to help her. I ended up keeping Bug. We had an amazing bond and was definitely my heart dog. 🙂
It was some time in 2010 or 2011 that my mother in law returned home from visiting her sister in Ohio. Along with her was a brown tabby kitten maybe six or eight months old. He had shown up on the porch in Ohio and seemed homeless so Mom took him in. She named him Scamper. He was full of personality and completely loveable. I was smitten.
I made sure to play with Scamp and have quiet visit time whenever we were at Mom's house. Scamp shared the house with a high energy Jack Russell Terrier and a gray cat who hated him and everyone else, except Mom. Our quiet visits in the basement seemed to make his day.
Mom started suffering memory loss and by 2017 the hard decision to place her in assisted living was made. She could take one pet with her and she had decided to take her gray cat. During my quiet time with Scamper I cried and promised him I would find a good home for him.
I already had a senior ginger tabby at home. Her health was failing and I couldn't upset her by bringing in a new cat. Efforts to find a home for Scamp were not going well.
One early morning Mom called on the phone in tears. She was worried for Scamper. " Who will answer his cries? ", she asked. I didn't have an answer.
As time for Mom to transition to assisted living drew near, my ginger girl's health continued to deteriorate. She let us know it was time to say goodbye. It was difficult for me but I knew it was the right and humane decision. Dolly rests in our yard near the Redbud tree.
By now, you can guess who answers Scamper's cries. Since he already knew us he settled in nicely and he runs the house like a little boss. Did I say little? He's nearly 20 pounds and and has paws as big as three of my fingers put together. He's my boy 😊.
I fostered a 5 year old cat who had been pretty shut down at the shelter. When I brought him home he turned into a crazy outgoing and bold boy who chases and bullied my 3 cats. It was a very rough transition but we decided to adopt him. My 6 year old black boy Nelson was not a fan and started spraying all over my house. We managed to clean and managed his stress. He stopped when Sprinkles got sick and Nelson was very kind to him especially at the end. Sprinkles died in 2020. Nelson and my white cat Jimmy are now very elderly and as much as I see so many cats at the shelter where I volunteer that I would love to adopt, I know that I can’t. When they both pass we will adopt again. For now I’ll just visit and clean during my volunteer shift.

Jimbobwe!! Ton of lolz! I don't think I will ever hear another meant-to-be sign as that one.
