If I have learned anything in my 66 years, it’s that life is learning to live with loss. Not just the humans and animals and places we love, but our ideas of how our lives will be. We are so full of possibilities when we are young, and every choice we make is something we didn’t choose that may now be lost to us. Getting older is learning to make peace with your losses, and letting go of any regret about our choices.

Oh boy, ditto on the over analyzing thing. When I’m disappointed in something not coming to pass, I ask myself why I am so deeply disappointed. I ask, what about my current situation is so dissatisfying? What can I do to either change or mitigate it? Is it boredom or restlessness? Maybe it’s time to learn something new. Is it loneliness? Maybe it’s time to expand my circle. Am I overwhelmed? Maybe it’s time to slow down. Do I want a new challenge? Maybe it’s time to start a new project until the next opportunity comes my way.

That said, here’s hoping that whatever it is you need finds you soon and eases your soul. —And for what it’s worth, I’m kinda hoping you and Chris find an old farmhouse, move it on to your property, and fix it up. With your organizational skills and dedication, it would be remarkable. Selfishly, I’d love to follow that journey. :)

This is SUCH a good way to look at things and yes, as a hyper self-aware person I am wildly aware of the ways I can take action on my unmet wants and needs...it's fitting you shared this because I spent a lot of time Friday thinking about this...how do we get what we *could* have gotten from that house, that location, that land, etc...and start doing it now? Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

Just wanted to comment how much your writing is appreciated Sarah. You and Chris have great instincts. Trust your gut always. I so enjoy reading your farm note and following you on Instagram. You are a breath of fresh air in this unsteady world.

Thank you Elaine - life's not easy but what that means to me is we should more freely and readily and easily talk about it when its not...it lessens the burden for us all. Thanks for reading and for spending moments here, we love to share what we are learning as we go.

Hi! Since you cook so much, would you ever consider making the pet food vs buying it? I see the prices are high. I have a house full of rescue dogs and cats. I really enjoyed this article. You are a very special person and inspiration.

Hi there! Something really important about Darwin's is they do specific health and safety checks to ensure the raw meat you are feeding to your pets is safe for raw consumption. My fear with using raw meat from the grocery store is that it may not have that same safety because it is not intended to be consumed raw. If we were to buy it from our farmers that'd be a different story, but Darwin's has worked really well for us and actually, when we did the cost comparison, we'd pay EXACTLY the same to feed all seven cats canned wet food since they'd need more of the canned food to meet the same nutritional requirements they get from Darwin's.

Your farm is a lot of work…but perhaps you are meant to be there? And could build a home on your property instead of leaving? Then again, it may only be the timing and something better is around the corner. I’m sure you’ve already probably considered this, but just a thought. You’re a wonderful writer and always look forward to your posts and IG.
