Loved reading this weeks post! I’ve worked in Horticulture for almost 20 years and I’m so excited when individuals begin to get involved with gardening and seeds. There is so much too choose from and it just gets better every year. Can’t wait till you get your greenhouse started!
Thank you for your comment! When I first got started I was so intimidated because I know there are so many very experienced gardeners out there and I previously couldn't even keep a house plant alive! But, like with all things, we have to give ourselves permission to be new at something and not to expect ourselves to be perfect or to know everything right out the gate. That's what I've come to love so much about gardening...you could spend a whole lifetime doing it and still always and forever be learning new things, and that it requires the patience of working alongside nature. It's changing me for sure.
I'm so excited to see all the flowers in bloom! You may want to reach out to @floretflower on instagram, I'm pretty sure they practice flower seed saving and may be able to give you some tips and info!
One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard about getting flower gardens started was to visit a local greenhouse every two to three weeks and plant (in your own garden) whatever was blooming. That way, you have flower gardens that bloom all season. Looking forward to seeing your blooms this year!
That is certainly very good advice! The seed starting process means I have to back that waaay up for a short growing season here in Upstate NY but I like that thinking for the flower beds where I'm not starting seed.
I was a total newbie in spring 2016 when I grew my first flowers from seeds on a sunny, glassed-in back porch. I felt like a goddess when I saw the first little green shoots poking out of the soil and then grow!
Oh my gosh, "goddess" is the perfect term! I may borrow that! There is so much satisfaction from learning how to grow anything, and I can't wait to nurture all these baby seeds into beautiful plants and flowers! Goddess mode here I come! :)
Have you seen the series Floret on Magnolia Network? If not, you might enjoy seeing how they grew their flower farm and seed business. It’s really interesting and they offer both free and paid classes on growing flowers.
I did watch it and plan to watch the upcoming season. Maybe I'll take their online workshop this coming winter. I do have their books and have learned quite a bit from all their resources!
I love the visualisation and can't wait to see it come to life! Are you planning on just enjoying the flowers or do you hope to pick them and sell/gift them on?

Love this! Adding flowers will be great for the biodiversity of your farm too, the chickadees will love all the new bugs!
I'm over the moon with the anticipation of monarchs and bees and hummingbirds and all the little critters we'll have visiting the farm!!
