When friends come through we like to pull out all the stops and give them a taste of a little bit of everything here on the farm!
My good friend Sara is in town from the Florida panhandle for the weekend and she’s currently getting part of that full experience!
We picked up a bunch of local goods and snacks at a market near Albany, had coffee in Troy, ate dinner both in Saratoga Springs and Bennington, VT, grabbed ourselves some fabulous scones and coffee in Vermont, popped into one of my favorite farm market and antique shops on a nearby farm, and then today we’ll head back into Vermont for some brunch and shopping and walking around a few little towns.
Of course, straight away Sara got to meet all of the Furmers, Molly-Max, Dominic, and all the hens. She helped water the donkeys, tuck the chickens in, collect their eggs, and had freshly-made scrambled eggs for breakfast—an LDF farm stay must!
I’m always so proud of our crew when someone comes to visit—everyone is so friendly and on their best behavior and for the most part (with the exception of Black Kitty and Black and White Kitty—they can be quite shy) everyone loves meeting new people! Micro is basically in love with Sara and keeps following her around, staring at her, and just loving the attention.
It’s always so fun for me and for us to host friends and family and get to see the farm through their eyes. Getting to answer questions, talking about everything we’ve learned, and sharing so many of the incredible experiences we’ve had here always makes me even more grateful that we get to do This Little Dream Life.
Now, I told Sara she’s got to come back in the height of the growing season so we can take her to all the best farm markets, spend time in the garden, walk the farm when it’s green and lush, pick fruits and veggies from the garden, pair them with our farmer’s meats, and turn them into incredible meals. It’s really a must to see the farm when it’s in it’s full lush glory!
Here’s a little fun exercise for us all for today:
If you were to come and visit the LDF—what would you want to see most? How would you want your time to be spent? What would you want to try, eat, do, and where would you want to go most?
Tell me about it today in the comments, I can’t wait to hear what you dream up for your perfect visit to the LDF!
A question…who were you before before this world got its grip on you?
A few faves for you this week:
Need a go-to activewear zip-up? This black fleece full-zip hoodie has a gorgeous fit, it’s great quality, plenty warm, and has my favorite thumb holes for those colder times you need your hands feeling warm, too. Can’t go wrong with the price, it comes in several color ways, and fits true to size. Size up one if you want a more roomy fit.
Want the perfect leggings to go with the zip-up as a classic black athleisure look? These buttery soft high-waisted leggings are a great every-day pair and I love that they have the leg phone pocket so I can wear them around the house and the farm and have my phone handy, too. Comes in several color ways and fits true to size.
I love how a white sneaker makes your legs look longer and here on the farm keeping sneakers white is quite the chore! So, I’ve swapped to leather sneaks because they’re so much easier to keep clean. I love these white sneaks for the gym, for walks, and for pairing with any/all athliesure outfits. They’re a great workout shoe or comfy every day shoe and I simply take a wet paper towel or wipes and wipe of the leather to keep them clean and white. I find these run a tad small so I size up a half size from my norm.

Of course the first thing I’d do is head to the barn for some donkey kisses! Next would be a visit to meet the chickies, then inside to cuddle with any kitties that would allow it!
Next on my list, weather permitting, let’s take a walk around your property, with a nice, hot cup,of tea or coffee.
I’ve always wanted to visit a small eastern town where we could park & walk everywhere. Show me your favorite spots to shop, browse & enjoy a meal.
I would love to help you prepare a wonderful meal so I could learn a bit of your expertise. I’m a pretty picky eater, but I’d do my best to try something new.
Tucking the Molly-Max & Dominic in for the night, then the sweet chickies, would be the end of our day.
I’d return in the morning, bright & early to help with any chores. Feeding, mucking the stalls, scooping poop, feeding, pulling weeds, trimming bushes, cutting grass, etc. I’m not afraid to work & get my hands dirty.
Depending on how long you could put up with me (& my hubby ☺️), we’d enjoy a cup of coffee/tea on your porch, enjoying the view. Talking about our lives, discussing the future of LDF, whatever came up.
As our visit ended, I’d invite you & Chris for a visit to southern Indiana. We’d leave LDF full of love & admiration for you, Chris & all the “kids”! ❤️
P.S. We’d need some accommodation info close to you. 😊
Another Saratoga County neighbor here. I’d like to visit the flower garden in bloom to take photos , especially of the dahlias and black kitty.
